Le Locle watch-making route

“I set off on the watch-making trail in the town of Le Locle! With my guide in hand, I headed off to visit the central square of the Mère commune and started to follow the itinerary set out in the map. Thanks to the clear explanations provided in the brochure, I understood the history of the watch-making industry with ease – an industry which has helped develop the reputation of this ‘small corner of the country’. I learnt more about the various personalities of the town such as the Jürgensens and the Tissot family. Some companies are open to visitors and I was fortunate enough to reserve a place. Even though watch-makers are aided by various machines these days, I am still overwhelmed by the precision and patience which their work requires! I then arrived at the beautiful town hall and laid down on the green grass for a little break. Not far from there, I took a look at the statue of Jean-Richard, the region’s first watch-maker! I invested my last bit of energy into the final satisfying climb up to Monts Cast. Finally it was the unmissable Museum of Watch-making which impressed me the most with its treasures and delights”.

Discover the buildings and personalities which have made their mark on the history of watchmaking. The expertise of Daniel JeanRichard is reflected today in numerous prestigious brands which, in many cases, offer the chance to look around their workshops by advance appointment.
